Cha-cha-changes

When we originally picked exterior colors a few wks ago, we had a very whiny & squirmy toddler & made the decisions as quick as we could based on the very small popsicle sticks we were shown. There were very few combinations available and we started by narrowing down the stone that we wanted first (Kentucky). From there, Rob said he wanted "a color" for the shutters & door so they would pop & we picked blackwatch green. I wanted the darkest siding available, with which that combination only left us with Sandy Tan

After doing some googling & getting to see what full houses (in daylight) looked like with the Sandy Tan, I quickly changed my mind b/c I was really looking for a darker tan as I wanted a more Craftsman style house (which from searches & other blogs told me would be Stone Mountain Clay). We went back to the model this past weekend and re-picked our exteriors. This time around we ended up with the Stone Mountain Clay siding, Kentucky stone, and black shutters & door.

Of course, second guessing myself is one of my favorite pastimes worst traits and I was questioning my picks again as soon as I left the model b/c I worried it would be too much brown & all blend together (seriously, how do they expect you to be confident in your selections when you're going based on these tiny samples?!). Until I saw this Rome blog which, aside from having more stone, had very similar selections (including the same elevation). I'm so glad these RH blogs exist, how did we survive before the internet?!

  1. Hi Mama G, glad you found what you were looking for! Kevin C, helped me out too! He and his wife rode their neighborhood and found the silver mist siding I was looking for--you are right, what would we do without the blog community.

Choosing the exterior colors was my biggest challenge. It's very hard when you must choose from left overs. I must have changed the exterior four times and landed with brick which I never thought I would pick because we wanted the stone. After seeing the siding colors in natural light on a home it may a world of difference. When you pick the stone, you really need a total contrast to make the house pop or the colors merge together.

    1. BTW-Stone Mountain Clay was the siding color that I wanted! I love your color combination. They don't offer Kentucky in our area, we originally chose Aspen.

  2. Love your selections! We have the Stone Mountain Clay with Bucks County stone. Kentucky wasn't an option for us, but I really like the combination. The depth of color in the Kentucky stone is beautiful.
I totally understand the toddler issue. We had three flooring appointments and the first two involved all three kids. For the last one, I went alone with only the toddler. It was amazing how much easier it was. I sent pics via text to DH and we made our decisions.

  3. I would have loved to get SMC siding, but our neighbors beat us to it. Because we really wanted the brown shutters and front door that left us with Sandy Tan, which was the only other color they'd allow with the brown.
